Reference Information Desk

One of the major services points in each of the University of Detroit Mercy Libraries is the Reference Information Desk. Located within direct eye view of the respective entrances, the desk is staffed all hours the libraries are open by a degreed librarian

At the Reference Desk

It is the management philosophy of the University of Detroit Mercy Libraries/IDS that a degreed librarian be on duty at each reference desk all hours the libraries are open. Librarians are educated and trained on reference sources, online searching, teaching research skills, and conducting reference interviews. By asking the right questions of patrons who are doing research, the librarian is better able to help narrow or broaden the research subject, select synonyms for searching, and guide the researcher to the appropriate sources.

Call a Librarian

It is the management philosophy of the University Libraries that a librarian be on duty all hours that the libraries are open. Therefore, if you call with a question, you are assured that you will receive professional assistance with your information needs.

Librarian Consultants

In the librarian consultant program, each UDM librarian is assigned to work with a number of academic programs for collection development and evaluation. In turn, the college or school Dean designates a faculty liaison from each academic program to work directly with a librarian.
