American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)

The ASME promotes and develops education, technology, research and standards in mechanical engineering. This comprehensive site includes information on government policies, ASME position statements, the history of mechanical engineering, and diversity and outreach programs. It also features the ASME Professional Practice Curriculum, with free online learning modules in career development for engineering students and new engineers and free online tutorials on management skills, economics, legal and business issues, project management and product lifecycles. The website also has a free internet course on starting your own business, searchable job postings and internships, a members-only resume database and links to companies with internships or student programs. In addition, you can find information about accreditation, certification and the Engineers without borders program, and discussion boards for new professionals. The website also features free online magazines including "Mechanical Engineering Online," which includes a newsfeed, information on new products, trends, software and technology, articles on various issues related to mechanical engineering, government news, and short descriptions of new books. ME Today, an e-newsletter for new or student engineers, is also available on the website.

Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE)

The SAE includes engineers, businessmen and students who share ideas and information to advance the engineering of self-propelled vehicles. The SAE website includes information on scholarships and internships, conferences and symposia, design competitions, certification programs, fee-based online courses, videotaped courses, and online forums.

Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)

The SME provides resources for professionals and companies to develop and improve knowledge, skills, and manufacturing solutions. The SME website includes detailed information about various certifications, including sample exams and self-assessments, fee-based online courses and courses on video,a database of university and college manufacturing programs, two free monthly e-newsletters, "Lean Directions," and "Six Sigma Quality in Manufacturing," industry news, a code of ethics, and members-only job postings.

National Society of Professional Engineers. (NSPE)

A national society including all engineering disciplines that promotes licensure, competence, and ethics for engineers. You may post your resume and view job postings, information on licensure, scholarships, and internships. It also includes, "Engineering Times" a monthly online magazine with articles on various engineering issues, profiles of various academic engineering programs, and state-specific engineering news. Also available are ethics cases, and various discussion forums.

American Society for engineering education (ASEE)

The ASEE is a society of academic administrators, professors and teachers that promotes the improvement of engineering education. The site includes profiles of U.S. and Canadian engineering programs, fellowships and internships, continuing education, a very large list of links to potential employers and job search sites, and grants and funding resources.

Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD)

The ESD is a multidisciplinary engineering and scientific society that promotes professional development, technology, engineering and science professions, and positive contributions to society. The ESD website includes licensure information and courses, monthly networking events, competitions and awards, career expos with potential employers, free job postings, and a members-only resume database.

Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor society

TBP is a national, invitation-only honor society of engineers who are high academic achievers and have shown exemplary character. The TBP website has a members-only online job matching service, where you can post your resume, browse job postings, and receive email notifications of job postings that match your requirements. It also has various discussion forums.

Society of Women Engineers (SWE)

The SWE is a nonprofit organization that promotes engineering as a career choice for women. This site includes scholarships, career advice articles, links to information about issues that women face in the workplace, online seminars, members-only job postings and a members-only resume database.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

The NSBE is a student-managed organization that supports Black engineering students’ academic and professional development and promotes positive involvement in the community. The NSBE website includes community service programs and opportunities, tutoring and mentoring programs, scholarships from both the NSBE and other organizations, members-only searchable job postings, and a members-only resume database.
