Citation:

Richard Dana Skinner, native son of this city, and early student of the pioneer Jesuits of Detroit; later Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, of Harvard University; scion of forebears prominent in the literary, cultural and civic life of the nation; recipient as Captain in the Air Service in the World War of the French Legion of Honor as well as of American and Italian decorations; Journalist, Author, Critic, and Economist; who by his scholarly attainments in the field of finance and social research has won the esteem and confidence of his associates, and as dramatic editor for ten years of the Commonweal has endeavored to cultivate true artistic taste and discernment in the patrons of the drama; who in public and private life has always devoted himself to religious, cultural and social causes - is recommended for the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, and to be inscribed on the list of the University's roll of honor. Commencement, University of Detroit, June 9, 1936.
