One of the first two honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Detroit Mercy was awarded to Mr. Kughn, Chairman of the University of Detroit Board of Trustees. The honorary degree was presented by Sister Maureen A. Fay, president of the University of Detroit Mercy and Father Robert A. Mitchell, chancellor. A successful business entrepreneur and real estate developer, Richard Kughn is chairman and president of Kughn Enterprises, headquartered in Southfield. He is the retired president and CEO of the Taubman Company. Also, Kughn was owner, president and chairman of Lionel trains. Mr. Kughn is a member of the Board of Directors, Detroit Regional Chamber and a board member of the Detroit Economic Club.
