Rapid cycling Brassica rapa is an important plant for education and research. Currently, no successful method for inserting foreign DNA has been developed for this cultivar, largely because the plant does not regenerate easily in tissue culture. Another possible transformation strategy is to use the Agrobacterium mediated floral dip procedure first developed in Arabidopsis thaliana. A self-compatible line of rapid cycling Brassica rapa will be evaluated. Variables that will be tested include the concentration of selection agent needed for transformant screening, Agrobacterium strain, and surfactant concentration.
