A series of novel ligands, all beginning either with 1,3-diaminobenzene or 2,6-diaminotoluene and a functional, aromatic aldehyde has been produced via Schiff's base condensations, and has been characterized by multi-nuclear NMR and, in select cases, by single crystal structures. The ligands may have the potential to function both as bis-bidentate or as tetra-dentate units. Structural characterizations, plus indications of the metal binding abilities of the ligands, will be presented and discussed.
