The smart grid is a new technology using new and sophisticated methods of transmission and distribution to provide excellent electric service to customers. The smart-grid is a two-way communication system allowing customers to manage the energy service bur also access some features which can cause a risk of damaging the system and increasing the possibility of cyber-attacks and cascade failures propagating from one system to another. The security of the smart grid is very critical. The aim of this paper is to survey the attempts that have been made to tackle smart grid security issues, and to present the security approaches necessary to enforce tough security measures to fully protect the smart grid infrastructure.
