Title: Colored American - June 16, 1838 Speaker or author: editor Newspaper or publication: Colored American (1837 - 1842) The writer describes the events at a Colonization meeting held in Philadelphia. Although it was supposed to be open to everyone, African Americans were excluded. One African American man who got into the meeting, however, said it was merely a fund raiser and based on the fear of violence if the slaves were set free.
