Title: Provincial Freeman - August 29, 1855 Speaker or author: editor Newspaper or publication: Provincial Freeman (1853 - 1859) The writer comments on an article from another newspaper announcing that the city of St. Louis has determined that African American churches are to blame for the "mischief" attributed to the behavior of slaves. To remedy this, the city is closing these churches and making room for slaves in white churches.
