Early Childhood Research & Practice (ECRP), a peer-reviewed electronic journal sponsored by the Early Childhood and Parenting (ECAP) Collaborative at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, covers topics related to the development, care, and education of children from birth to approximately age 8. ECRP emphasizes articles reporting on practice-related research and development, and on issues related to practice, parent participation, and policy. ECRP also includes articles and essays that present opinions and reflections, and letters to the editor. Beginning with the Spring 2004 issue (Vol. 6, No. 1), ECRP is a fully bilingual (English and Spanish) journal. Open access full-text online articles begin with volume 1, number 1 (Spring 1999).

Open access to online full-text articles begins with volume 1 (2003). "Our mission is to bring together scientific and applied knowledge in the field of Educational Psychology, to be shared among academics and practitioners. This involves maintaining a balance in articles published, including research work done by practitioners while simultaneously maintaining academic rigor. Both types of knowledge, moreover, should become more directly related to each other. A further priority is to create a channel for exchanging knowledge between the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds, recognizing the current lack of instruments that facilitate such an interchange. Thus, while the printed version addresses exclusively the Spanish-speaking audience, the electronic version has a bilingual nature, and both versions are closely linked to each other. Some studies may be published in both languages and in both venues, at different points in time, due either to the authors' express wish (pending payment of corresponding fees), or at the wish of the editors (costs covered by the publishers), should a paper be considered worthy of translation on account of its interest level and quality. Publication formats are thus printed and electronic, with 3 issues per year (February, June and November for the printed version, and April, September and January for the electronic version), the printed version not to exceed 8 articles in any issue. The editors may select articles for one or both versions, according to the readership profile of each version. In both formats, the publication will consist of two sections of content: 1) Academic and applied professional research: theoretical and empirical papers. 2) Practical applications: reflections, professional experiences, technologically innovative materials, instructional material, materials for evaluation and intervention. The selection and review process will follow international norms of equality, anonymity and quality. For this purpose, peer reviewers will include Spanish- and English-speakers, from both academic and professional settings, who are recognized for their research and/or professional work."
