The University of Detroit Mercy continues to support scholarly and creative activity. We value the work that is done on all campuses by faculty and students. The ability to engage a student in research supports their intellectual curiosity and encourages discussion, debate, and discovery. Research also provides an opportunity for students to learn more about their chosen discipline and contribute to its body of knowledge.

University of Detroit Mercy celebrated Faculty Authors for the first time in March of 2006. All books written by current faculty members, at the time, were included in the initial celebration, irrespective of their publication dates. Faculty authored book chapters, journal articles, and conference proceedings were added to the celebration in 2008. During this time, the events were referred to as "Celebration of Faculty Authors".

In 2010 the event was expanded to include posters, non-print projects, slideshows, and student awards. Student Awards consist of scholarly and or creative student work that had been recognized in competitions sponsored by faculty, professional organizations, or external groups. The program was renamed "Celebration of Scholarly Achievement: Publication, Posters, Projects" to reflect the inclusiveness of faculty and student research and authored works.

We are grateful to all those that contribute to the scholarly achievements that will be highlighted at all the planned events and especially the Celebration of Scholarly Achievement: Publications, Posters and Projects. The collaboration amongst faculty, schools, colleges, and both graduate and undergraduate students is to be celebrated. We hope you enjoy this year's series of inspiring and informative events.
